Professor Chris Butterworth

Chris is a full-time NHS Consultant based between the Regional Maxillofacial Unit at Aintree and the Liverpool University Dental Hospital. He is the lead clinician for dental implants at the Dental Hospital and leads the oral rehabilitation service in Merseyside for the rehabilitation of oral cancer patients. He undertook his basic training in Liverpool before moving to Birmingham to complete his higher specialist training during which time he also completed an MPhil research degree. He has a long-standing interest in mucogingival surgery around teeth and the application of mucogingival surgical techniques around dental implants. He has lectured widely in the UK and together with Paul Baker has led several hands-on mucogingival surgery masterclasses for the British Society of Periodontology. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications & textbook chapters and maintains a part-time specialist implant practice in the Wirral.
